Stray Cats and Feral Cats

Stray Cats and Feral Cats

Stray cats (or feral cats) can sometimes be fun to play with and tame, however the majority of us would prefer to get our cats from a pet shop or animal control center. It’s no secret that stray cats can be very common on a farm, but they can also be found in very crowded urban areas (hence the term ‘alley cat’). By definition, stray cats are cats that are lost, separated from their home or from their owner(s). Usually when people refer to stray cats they are talking about feral cats which are just cats that were born in the wild and haven’t been tamed.

Their behavior is very different from that of a domestic cat. Although these cats may look cuddly and friendly they ARE wild animals and when encountered by a human WILL act like it. It is estimated that there are 60 million domestic cats in America and 100 million stray or feral cats!
